Ron wooten
Founding Partner

Ron Wooten, Founding Partner, of NovaQuest has over 25 years of healthcare investing experience is currently the CIO of NovaQuest Capital Management. He also heads the investment committee of the General Partner of NovaQuest Pharma Opportunities Fund III and IV. His responsibilities include management company oversight, investment policy, fundraising, and the day-to-day management of the NovaQuest Pharma Opportunities business.

Since its formation in 2000 through November 2010, while NQ was a business unit within Quintiles; Mr. Wooten led the platform in creating and managing unique relationships, structured finance and equity investments with more than $2 billion in gross commitments, capital or services to companies of all sizes. He was also an Executive Vice President of Quintiles and managed their customer-partnering arrangements worldwide. He also served on the Quintiles Board of Directors from January 2008 through November 2010.

Mr. Wooten’s previous experience includes nine years with First Union Securities, where he served as a Managing Director of Investment Banking focusing on M&A transactions across the middle market. Before he started his career in finance, he was a member of the New England Patriots football team from 1981 to 1990.

Mr. Wooten received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned an MBA from Boston University.

Vern Davenport
Partner

Vern Davenport, Partner, has over 30 years of executive experience in building and transforming healthcare technology and services companies.

Before joining NovaQuest, Mr. Davenport was CEO and Board Member at Medfusion, a leader in healthcare consumerism technology. In this role, he was instrumental in the carve-out of the company from Intuit and returning its core portal solution to a market leadership position. Operationally, he created a culture where the company was awarded “Best Places to Work” by the Triangle Business Journal. In less than 12 months, the company developed and released two new products in patient payments and consumer patient record integration leveraging both cloud and mobile technologies.

Prior to Medfusion, Mr. Davenport was Chairman and CEO of Medquist, leader in transcription services before and after the privatization of the company. As Chairman and CEO, Mr. Davenport facilitated a transformation of the business through the acquisition of a speech technology company, rebranding the company M*Modal and leading the take private process that resulted in the sale of the business to One Equity Partners.

Mr. Davenport’s previous experience also includes his time as President, Allscripts; CEO, Misys Healthcare; GM & EVP, Kodak Health Group (now Carestream Health) and executive leadership roles at Siemens, Shared Medical Systems. Mr. Davenport started his career at IBM where he spent 11 years in sales, sales leadership and executive management positions.

Mr. Davenport received an MBA from East Carolina University as well as a BSBA in Business. Mr. Davenport currently serves on the East Carolina Board of Trustees as well as the WakeMed Health and Hospitals Board.

JEFF EDWARDS
Partner

Jeff Edwards, CAIA, Partner, has over 16 years of investment experience and is a member of the Investment Committee at NovaQuest Private Equity. He is responsible for transaction origination, investment policy, fundraising, investor relations and the day-to-day management of the NovaQuest Private Equity business. In addition, he directs the private equity team in acquisitions, divestitures and oversight of portfolio companies.

Prior to joining NovaQuest, Mr. Edwards co-managed the Principal Investment Private Equity program at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, leading the efforts in the Healthcare and Industrial sectors across a variety of geographies. In that role, he was responsible for making investment decisions, deal origination, as well as portfolio construction and portfolio management. He also held a variety of board seats while at Texas Teachers.

Mr. Edwards’ previous experience also includes M&A advisory work for Raymond James Capital Markets focusing on middle-market companies. Mr. Edwards also worked as a consultant for State Street Global Advisors (‘SSGA’) . Consulting in Boston and Austin, his efforts were focused on the private equity industry including fund formation, portfolio management and investment due diligence. Before moving back to the Capital Markets sector he worked in finance and administrative roles in the healthcare industry with Carolinas HealthCare Systems and HCA, Inc. He started his career with the middle market investment bank RW Baird.

Mr. Edwards received an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a MSF from Boston College and a BA from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Mr. Edwards is also a CAIA Charter Holder.

GUY PETRELLI
Partner

Guy Petrelli, Partner, has over 28 years of investment experience and is a member of the Investment Committee at NovaQuest Private Equity. He is responsible for transaction origination, investment policy, fundraising, investor relations and the day-to-day management of the NovaQuest Private Equity business. In addition, he directs the private equity team in acquisitions, divestitures and oversight of portfolio companies.

Prior to joining NovaQuest, Mr. Petrelli was Partner and Investment Committee member at Silverfleet Capital, a private equity firm headquartered in London that focused on middle-market, control oriented investments across multiple sectors and geographies, including a dedicated healthcare platform. In that role, he was responsible for the firm’s US efforts, including identifying potential investments and managing and exiting US based portfolio companies and working with the firm’s European offices on their respective responsibilities. He also held board seats while at the firm.

Prior to Silverfleet, Mr. Petrelli was Partner and Investment Committee member at PPM America Capital Partners, the US based private equity group of Prudential, plc. In that role, he identified, managed and exited investments in a variety of industries, including healthcare and general industrial sectors. He started his career at GE Capital Corporation working in the corporate finance / leverage group where he focused on buyout transactions.

Mr. Petrelli received an MBA from DePaul University and a BA from Illinois Wesleyan University.

MICHAEL SORENSEN
Partner

Michael Sorensen, Partner, has over 15 years of investment experience and is a member of the Investment Committee at NovaQuest Private Equity. He is responsible for transaction origination, investment policy, fundraising, investor relations and the day-to-day management of the NovaQuest Private Equity business. In addition, he directs the private equity team in acquisitions, divestitures and oversight of portfolio companies.

Prior to NovaQuest, Mr. Sorensen was Director at BlackRock’s private equity group. In that role he was responsible for making investment decisions in a wide variety of geographies and industries, including healthcare, technology, and consumer / retail, among others. He also held a variety of board seats while at the firm.

Prior to BlackRock, Mr. Sorensen worked at Sorenson Capital (no familial relation), a mid-market private equity firm based in Salt Lake City. Similar to his current role, he analyzed private companies in a wide range of industry sub sectors and geographies. Mr. Sorensen also worked as a consultant for L.E.K. Consulting in Los Angeles, where he worked closely with clients’ senior management on projects that included asset optimization, strategic planning, and customer segmentation, primarily in the healthcare and media industries.

Mr. Sorensen received a MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a MPA from Harvard University. He also received a BS in economics from Brigham Young University.
