QUINTILES AND KOS PHARMACEUTICALS ENTER STRATEGIC COMMERCIALIZATION AGREEMENT FOR NIASPAN AND ADVICOR
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - January 30, 2002 - Quintiles Transnational Corp. (Nasdaq: QTRN) today announced the signing of an agreement with Kos Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to commercialize Advicor® (extended-release niacin/lovastatin) and Niaspan® (extended release niacin) in the United States for the treatment of cholesterol disorders. Advicor was approved on December 17th, 2001 and was launched this week while Niaspan is one of the fastest growing therapies in the multi-billion-dollar cholesterol market.

Under the agreement, Quintiles' commercialization unit, Innovex, will provide a dedicated sales force of 150 cardiovascular-trained representatives who, in combination with Kos Pharmaceuticals' force of 300 representatives, will commercialize Advicor and Niaspan for two years.

Quintiles' strategic investment group, PharmaBio Development, has entered into a five-year commission agreement with Kos based upon the commercialization program for Advicor and Niaspan. Quintiles expects this transaction to generate operating profit throughout the term of the agreement.

Ron Wooten, president, PharmaBio Development said, "Our agreement with Kos is another example of Quintiles' ability to structure strategic and financial solutions for its customers."

Richard Johnson, M.D., chief executive officer, Quintiles Commercialization North America, said, "The addition of the Innovex sales force helps Kos Pharmaceuticals expand their promotional message to a wider range of physicians. Innovex was able to deploy a team of experienced sales representatives to meet Kos' objectives for the launch of Advicor."
